The book is a collection of essays which the author published during the recent decade and which revolve around the role of norms and rules in what makes us humans into what we are. The author is convinced, and argues for this in his texts, that this role is crucial: that the ability to produce, maintain and follow rules is not only specifically human, but that it is a covert source of all visible differences between us and other creatures: of our language, our reason or our specific ways of thinking.
