Kapitola se zabývá specifiky čínské kulturní diplomacie v Malajsii v posledních dvou desetiletích a zvláště během vlády premiéra Najiba Razaka (2009-2018), která spočívají v tom, že díky přítomnosti vlivné a početné čínské menšiny Čína nemohla uplatňovat svou strategii propagace „exotických zvyků a tradic“. Namísto toho se tak ČLR v rámci zvyšování svého vlivu soustředila na oblast vzdělávání, ať už formou zakládání Konfuciových institutů, či založením zahraničního kampusu renomované čínské univerzity. Text dále zkoumá tzv. stranickou diplomacii mezi vládnoucími stranami obou zemí, jakož i ekonomickou diplomacii a výstavbu kontroverzních projektů, z nichž některé ukončila nebo omezila změna v politickém vedení země po volbách v roce 2018.

The chapter examines the specificities of China's cultural diplomacy in Malaysia over the past two decades, and particularly during the rule of Prime Minister Najib Razak (2009-2018), which is that the presence of an influential and large Chinese minority has prevented China from pursuing its strategy of promoting 'exotic customs and traditions'. Thus, instead, the PRC has focused on the field of education as part of increasing its influence, whether through the establishment of Confucius Institutes or the establishment of an overseas campus of a renowned Chinese university. The text also examines the so-called party diplomacy between the two countries' ruling parties, as well as economic diplomacy and the construction of controversial China-funded projects, some of which have been terminated or curtailed due to the change in the country's political leadership that took place after the GE14 in 2018.
