Kolektivní monografie byla připravena a vydána v souvislosti se dvěma významnými výročími spojenými s historií Archeologického ústavu AV ČR, Brno a moravskou archeologií obecně: 50 let od ustavení samostatného Archeologického ústavu Akademie věd v Brně (ARÚB, brněnská pobočka Archeologického ústavu, z níž nynější ARÚB vznikl, byla založena v roce 1942) a 100 let od jmenování I. L. Červinky státním konzervátorem pro Moravu a Slezsko za Státní archeologický ústav. Kniha je věnována důležitým kapitolám – příběhům z dějin ARÚB, z jeho vědecké, organizační a popularizační činnosti. Je rozdělena do čtyř bloků: Historie, Lokality, Fenomény a Veřejnost, její obsah je doplněn medailony věnovanými již nežijícím výzkumným pracovníkům ústavu. Kniha nabízí reflexi ARÚB v kontextu dobových politicko-společenských změn i vývoje archeologické vědy samotné. Představuje výběr nejvýznamnějších lokalit, objevů a popularizačních aktivit pracoviště za posledních 80 let. Je určena odborné i širší veřejnosti.

The book is a collective monograph published in connection with two major anniversaries of the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Brno, and Moravian archaeology in general: the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the independent Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences in Brno (ARÚB, Brno-based subdivision of the State Institute of Archaeology – the predecessor of current ARÚB – was established in 1942) and the 100th anniversary of the appointment of I. L. Červinka as state conservator for Moravia and Silesia at the State Institute of Archaeology. The narrative reveals many remarkable stories from the history of ARÚB regarding its research, organisational and popularisation activities. The book is divided into four sections: History, Sites, Phenomena and Public, with the personal profiles of ARÚB researchers who have passed away that supplement the main contents of the monograph. The publication offers a reflection of the institute in the context of political and social changes as well as the development of archaeology itself and presents a selection of the most important sites, discoveries and popularisation activities of the past 80 years. The book is intended both for professionals and the general public.
