Phlegiviruses are a group of capsidless viruses possessing a monopartite dsRNA genome about 11 kbp in size, encoding two overlapping open reading frames, and infecting various basidiomycetous fungal hosts. A NUDIX-hydrolase motif on ORF1 is characteristic of this group, and an RdRp motif is present on ORF2. Phlegiviruses are closely related to members of the genus Megabirnavirus. The genus name Phlegivirus is proposed, which includes 5 species.
