This article provides the basic knowledge on the physics of inertial fusion energy (IFE) production with lasers. It includes two sections. The first is dedicated to the hydrodynamic processes, including target ablation, acceleration, implosion, ignition of fusion reactions and burn and stability of the implosion process. The second section considers the physics of laser plasma interactions and kinetic processes, including laser propagation and energy deposition in a plasma corona, collisional and resonance absorption, nonlinear processes of laser plasma interaction and energy transport in a fusion plasma.
