The chapter sociologically examines the case of the an initiative for scientific and also commercial purposes run by the company ZOE, which represents a global avant-garde of medicinal microbial research focused on personalized medicine and nutrition. Its interest lies not just in its innovative methodology – a combination of first-rate “basic” research and a commercial service for clients that rely on one another as strategies for learning and acquiring data – or in how it publicly presents itself and its results, but also in the fact that it explicitly professes the values of health equity. Thus, in the broad sense of the word – unlike many other ostensibly depoliticized research projects – it also puts forth certain sociopolitical goals.
The chapter is published in the English language version of the book Multilogues on the Now 4: O žlázách, membránách a dutinách.
