Studie analyzuje čtyři inscenace klasicistních tragédií divadelního režiséra Karla Dostala: Racinovu Faidru (1926) a trojí Goethovu Ifigenii (z let 1921, 1943 a 1954). Představuje je v kontextu Dostalovy reflexe o tzv. novém klasicismu, jak o něm uvažuje ve svém eseji “Cesty za velkým mrtvým”, ale také v kontextu jeho divadelní průpravy, již absolvoval před první světovou válkou v Německu.

The study analyzes the productions by stage director Karel Dostal, which deal with the French and German mythodological tragedies from the Classicist period, Racine’s Phèdre (1926) and the three stage adaptations of Goethe’s Iphigenie auf Tauris (1921, 1943, and 1954), mainly at the Prague National Theatre. It presents them in the context of Dostal’s reflections on the issue of the so-called “new classicism” as outlined in his essay “Journeys to the Great Dead” (1926), but also in the context of his theatre training he completed before the WW I in Germany.
