Given the Lebesgue space with variable exponent L^{s(·)}(Ω) whose norm is denoted by || · ||s(·), we find necessary and sufficient condition to have: lim_{|E|→0}||χ_E||_{s(·)}=0, where χ_E is the characteristic function of the measurable set E and |E| its Lebesgue measure. We apply such results to characterize the compactness of some inclusions.
