    The essence of monumentality is iconoclastic: to break images, monumental images of oneself, to put a man, this self-text, this self-interpreting “I” (me-ipse) into con-text(uality). It is Imagination preceding the Memory – Image, and not the opposite (Michel Foucault, Gaston Bachelard). The discrete dimension of difference is based, in the compositions of the Czech composer Miloslav Kabeláč (1908–1979), on the elemental poetic figure of distance, and of different modalities of distance. These modalities of distance do not simply interact with each other, but rather intertwine in the creation of an intimate relationship.
