Zatímco Hřebečsko je dávným etnografickým regionem německé menšiny, Zábřežsko vždy charakterizovala česká většina v hornaté krajině severomoravského pomezí vůči Čechám. Společný osud sdílely za druhé světové války, kdy oba regiony připadly nacistickému Německu a z obou pak byla německá populace odsunuta. Stopy středověké lánové kolonizace však zůstaly v obou regionech dodnes v podobě úzkých a často i přes kilometr dlouhých parcel, které od osy silničních nebo potočních obcí probíhaly k okraji katastrů zcela bez ohledu na tvářnost terénu. Zatímco v úrodnějším a méně členitém Hřebečsku kolektivizace téměř všude zahladila obraz krajiny úzkých políček, hornaté Zábřežsko si uchovalo zbytků starobylé kulturní krajiny více. Vedle svědectví zašlých časů jsou to ostrůvky rozmanitosti v moderní velkoplošně využívané krajině.

Exhibition of photographs on the pre-industrial natural and cultural heritage of Moravia

While Hřebečsko is an ancient ethnographic region of the German minority in Czech Lands, Zábřežsko has always been characterized by the Czech majority in the mountainous landscape on the North Moravian border towards Bohemia. They shared a common destiny during World War II, when both regions fell to Nazi Germany and the German population was expelled from both afterwards. Traces of medieval strip colonization, however, remained in both regions to this day in the form of narrow and often over a kilometer long plots, which ran from the axis of road or stream villages to the edge of cadastres, regardless of the shape of the terrain. While in the more fertile and less rugged Hřebečsko region, socialist agricultural collectivization has almost everywhere erased the image of the landscape of narrow fields, the mountainous Zábřežsko region has preserved more of the remains of the ancient cultural landscape. In addition to the testimony of bygone times, these represent islands of diversity in the modern large-field landscape.
