Workshop sumarizoval komplexní metodologii mapování historických měst, díky níž je možné zpracovat historický vývoj měst do souborů map umožňujících široké spektrum analýz, využitelných v oblasti památkové péče a územního plánování. Metodou je zobrazení, popis a interpretace fenoménů v různých časových obdobích. Podstatou mapování je projekce podstatných jevů, atributů a vztahů a informace o jejich proměnách. Uspořádání a utváření jevů a atributů je ukotveno v rámci geografického informačního systému (GIS). Výstupem mapování jsou soubory map s odborným obsahem a příklady jejich analytického využití. Projekce vychází z měřítka krajinného kontextu města, měřítka celku města, a měřítka jeho skladebných částí. Metodika mapování historických měst byla představena v sekcích Zakládání a historie měst, Základní mapový soubor a jeho využití, Obraz města (Mapování obrazu a panoramatu města, Analýza obrazu historického města na příkladu města Jihlava), Život v centru historických měst (Anketní šetření, Analýzy užívání městského jádra) a Způsob hodnocení (Komparace podkladů). Ke každé sekci byla účastníky vedena diskuze. Workshop se konal za účasti zástupců technických univerzit z Prahy, Bratislavy a Krems a Akademie věd ČR.

The workshop summarized a comprehensive methodology for Mapping historic towns, thanks to which it is possible to process the historical evolvement of cities into sets of maps enabling a wide range of analyzes, usable in the field of cultural heritage protection and urban planning. The method is the display, description and interpretation of phenomena in different time periods. The essence of mapping is the projection of essential phenomena, attributes and relationships and information about their changes. The arrangement and formation of phenomena and attributes is anchored within the geographic information system (GIS). The output of mapping represent sets of Maps with expert content including examples of their analytical use. The projection is based on the scale of a city and its environs, the scale of the inner city and the scale of the urban ceentre. The methodology of mapping historic cities was presented in the sections Foundation and history of cities (Ground Plan Analysis), Base Map File and its use, City Image (Image mapping and city townscape, Analysis of the image of the historic city on the example of Jihlava), Life in the center of historic cities (Survey-targeted interviews, historical core use analysis) and Method of evaluation (Comparison of data). Each section was discussed by the participants. The workshop was held with the participation of representatives of technical universities from Prague, Bratislava and Krems and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
