    Boron-doped diamond (BDD) is recognized as an attractive electrode material for the wastewater cleaning (decomposition of organic compounds or disinfection driven by reactive oxygen species). Here we demonstrate the applicability of BDD electrodes for the decomposition of methyl orange (MO) by electrochemically generated OH* radicals. Real time monitoring of temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, ORP, conductivity and optical absorbance was provided to evaluate the degradation of MO. The process was capable to fully decompose 30 mg of MO in 1 L tap water after 7.5 h without the addition of salt or other electrical conductivity-enhancing components. To conclude, provided experiments confirm wide potential of BDD electrodes for the electrochemical purification of water (e.g. decomposition of environmentally dangerous pollutants and killing of bacteria) while no BDD electrode degradation was observed proving their excellent chemical resistance under harsh conditions.
