Opětovné uplatnění někdejších docentů a profesorů Německé univerzity v Praze, kteří byli vystaveni nacistické represi, v akademické sféře v Československu po květnu 1945 seukázalo jako značně problematické, a to z řady důvodů. Ani zahraniční intervence,zejména ze strany londýnské Society for the Protection of Science and Learning, v tomto ohledu nic nezměnily, a tak řada z těchto vědců dala po neúspěšných pokusech přednost odchodu (v některých případech opakovanému) ze země a zbytek se vracel k vědecké činnosti značně komplikovanými způsoby.

After 1945, out of all interwar-period professors and associate professors of the German University in Prague (Deutsche Universität) who had been sent to ghettos and extermination camps or had fled the country on racial grounds, only a handful actually returned. Resuming their prewar academic posts proved very difficult as the German University was abolished and neither the restored Czech universities nor Czechoslovak authorities showed much enthusiasm for involving them in education or research. Appeals from abroad, primarily by the London-based Societyfor the Protection of Science and Learning, proved fruitless. Frustrated, many scientists chose to leave the country (some of them for the second time) while the rest took great pains to resume some scientific activity.
