Triazoles are frequently used fungicides, which were developed to block the biosynthesis of fungal ergosterol to be used in crop protection and medicine. However, triazoles inhibit two enzymes (14α-demethylase and aromatase), both included in the sterol synthesis of all organisms1. The effects of the single triazole application were studied several times and they are well described. However, within their application they are not used as a single compound but in a mixtures of different triazoles. Additionally, triazoles can be accumulated in the environment and they can also interact with other chemicals present. We bring the information how selected and representative triazoles2–5 (tebuconazole, cyproconazole, penconazole) influence the enzymatic activity of soil microbiota. We demonstrate that the cocktails of triazoles are more efficient in aromatase inhibition than simple summation of their particular contributions.
