GAGG:Ce is a fast scintillator recently developed as a product of “bandgap engineering” strategy applied on oxide garnet scintillators. The GAGG:Ce possesses good mechanical and chemical properties and radiation hardness of oxide garnets together with high density which makes it a promising candidate for various applications including medical imaging. Recently published study on Er3+ codoping of YAG:Ce presented an acceleration of Ce3+ inherent decay time due to a non radiative transfer of excitation energy from Ce3+ to the Er3+ codopant. The mechanism leads to acceleration of scintillation response either. In this work we present acceleration of response of GAGG:Ce,Mg induced by Ho3+ codoping. The study is performed on a set of Czochralski grown crystals doped with a wide range of Ho3+ concentrations and presents the effects of Ho3+ codoping on photoluminescence and scintillation properties of the material.
