Pětisetletá historie Jáchymova byla bohatá a pohnutá. Po svém založení v 16. století se stal světoznámým díky nálezům stříbrných rud. V 19 století se zde rozvinula jedinečná výroba uranových barev z místní rudy smolince. Během celé historie dolování se zde nalézaly nové minerály, přitahující pozornost vědců i sběratelů. Tak se stal Jáchymov ikonickou mineralogickou lokalitou.


The five hundred year history of Jáchymov has been filled with both bright and dark events. After Jáchymov was founded in the 16th century, it became one of the most famous mining localities due to the recurrent discoveries of important deposits of rich silver ores. In the 19th century Jáchymov became famous for the colors obtained from the uranium ore, pitchblende, occuring there. Throughout the duration of mining extraordinary mineral specimens in the ore veins attracted attention of scientists and collectors. Thus Jáchymov became an iconic mineralogical locality.
