Participants of the round table focused on a set of problems concerning contemporary populism: What forms does populism take in the contemporary moment? Can a general definition of populism be formulated, in spite of populism’s varied forms? Can a distinction between “progressive” and “reactionary” populism be justified? John Abromeit and Samir Gandesha, experts in the critical study of populism, presented their own answers to these questions from a historical as well as political-philosophical perspective, with an eye to the contemporary significance of populism both right and left.
