Based on archive sources, the article brings to light the attempt of the bookbinder Adam Schenck (1696-1727) to settle down with his craft as a fullfledged burgher in Pilsen. This first discovered report was the original of Schenck's complaint to the Czech vice regency filed on 24th September about the Pilsen municipality, who had not only turned down his burghership request, but also had the facilities of his workshop confiscated. A continuing research of archival funds revealed additional information on Schenck's life as well as on the progress of his dispute, which eventually remained without an effective solution due to Schenck's death. The findings do not only cast light upon the life-story of one so-far unknown bookbinder in Pilsen, but also provide an insight into condition on the social environment in Pilsen at the time.
