Kapitola v editované knize je výsledkem reflexe modernizace islámských zemí a příspěvkem do debaty o univerzalismu a partikularismu pojetí lidských práv v islámských zemích. Text přináší k teoretické diskusi i analýzu vývoje arabského lidskoprávního hnutí a vysvětluje, proč tzv. arabské jaro nepomohlo v rozhodování o tom, do jaké míry se prosazuje tzv. univerzalismus v pojetí lidských práv v zemích, ve kterých konkuruje kulturnímu ukotvení pojetí lidských práv, resp. prozatím tuto diskusi ukončilo. Po tzv. Arabském jaru se totiž až na několik výjimek lidskoprávní aktivismus stal předmětem represí, podobně jako před rokem 2011. Aktéři, kteří představovali tzv. partikularistický protipól, politický boj prohráli či ztratili kredibilitu. Naopak, přetrvávající lidskoprávní aktivismus zůstává inspirován Deklarací OSN.

The chapter in the edited book is the result of a reflection on the modernization of Islamic countries and a contribution to the debate on universalism and particularism of the concept of human rights in Islamic countries. To the theoretical discussion about human rights universalism, the text brings an actor-oriented perspective concerning development of the Arab human rights movement in the two principal countries of the Arab Spring: Egypt and Tunisia. The aim is to analyse why the so-called Arab Spring did not help to advance the analysis concernign the concept of human rights in countries where it competes with a culturalist anchoring of human rights as this discussion has so far neen ended by a return of repression. The chapter traces the development of Arab human right activism in relation to their regional and local context before, during and after the so called Arab Spring in Egypt and Tunisia, and shows that the actors who represented the so-called particularist counterpart lost their credibility and/or their political struggle. Conversely, persistent human rights activism remains inspired by the UN Declaration.
