Během 19. století se v mentálním horizontu obyvatel Českých zemí i celé Evropy usazuje myšlenka, že oni sami mají právo svou veřejnou činností ovlivňovat a spoluutvářet svět, ve kterém žijí. Velké změny ve směně, výrobě či sociální struktuře přinesly i nové formy politického života. Jeden z nich se odehrává ve veřejném prostoru, resp. přímo na ulici. Typickým příkladem pro 19. století jsou revoluce. Ulice však hrála podstatnou roli i v klidnějších časech. Politikou ulice není pouze šarvátka mezi českými a německými univerzitními studenty či dělnická manifestace, ale může se jí stát i národní slavnost, tělocvičná přehlídka či katolické procesí. 19. století je také obdobím konjunktury politicky motivovaného násilí, jež vyvěrá z dezintegrace mas a následného formování nových kolektivních identit, především národních a třídních. Cílem odborného setkání bylo prohloubení znalostí a komparace výsledků bádání o politice ulice a jejím zrodu v 19. století jako běžné praxi politického provozu.

During the 19th century arose in the mental horizon of the inhabitants of the Czech lands and the whole Europe the idea that they themselves have the right to influence and co-create the world in which they live by their public activities. New forms of Exchange, production or social structure brought also new forms of political life. One of them takes place in public space, respectively, right on the street. Revolutions are a typical example of the 19th-century street politics. However, the street played an essential role in quieter times as well. The street politics is not only a skirmish between Czech and German university students or a workers' manifestation, but it can also become a national celebration, a gymnast parade or a Catholic procession. The 19th century is also a period of boom in politically motivated violence that stems from the disintegration of the masses and the subsequent formation of new collective identities, especially national and class. The aim of the meeting was to deepen knowledge and compare the results of research on street politics during its birth in the 19th century as a common practice of politics.
