The chapter describes foundation, structure and wide activities of the Masaryk Academy of Labour (MAL), founded in 1920 as an independent scientific institution tasked with organizing technical work in the Czechoslovak state. The MAL was the youngest and most enterprising of the research academies to be replaced in 1952 by the Czechoslovak Academy of Science.
