The present study is focused on two sets of isomeric and quasi-isomeric imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) with the bis[(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl]imide anion. In the first group ionic liquids constituted with 1-butyl-3-alkylimidazolium cation were studied. Similarly, in the second group the butyl substituent was replaced with an oligoether 2-(2-ethoxyethoxy)ethyl group. Such design of IL structures enabled us to evaluate the structural effect inside of one group and between the two ranges with a different substituent in the N1-position.
The solubility of the ionic liquid in water was studied by means of the direct analytical method. UV-VIS spectrophotometry was used to analyze the IL content in the aqueous phase. The solubility of water in the IL was measured by the cloud-point method. However, to check the quality of the results obtained from cloud point measurements, the IL-rich phase was also in a few cases analyzed directly.
