Although the rockbolt support system is the most efficient, the steel arches support system predominated in Upper Silesian Coal Basin (USCB) mines. The bolting system are only combined with steel arches support to raise bearing capacity of supported roadways. Despite the very difficult geomechanical conditions in USCB, a few trial projects proved effectivity and safety of using the self-support bolting system. Recently the trial operation of room and pillar method has been implemented at the shaft protective pillar of CSM Mine. Mining depth of room and pillar trial ranged from 700 to 900 meters, being perhaps the deepest room and pillar within coal mining in the world. An extensive monitoring system confirmed huge dependence of stability bolted roadways on the specific geological-geotechnical condition. Not only from this reason, is the stress-deformation monitoring essential to apply self-support bolting system in unverified geomechanical area safely. A limitation for bolted roadways is also the rule that forbids using of the self-support bolting system in areas with the highest level of the rockburst risk. For the safe use of bolted roadways in complex geomechanical condition of USCB the new safety rockburst measures is essential to develop.
