Katalog ke stejnojmenné výstavě má formu knihy s pěti odbornými eseji a bohatým obrazovým doprovodem. Texty poprvé analyzují vystavený Sudkův soubor fotografií Prahy a jejích památek těsně po skončení druhé světové války v roce 1945 a nahlíží na něj interdisciplinárně z různých perspektiv – text Adama Havlíka jej zasazuje do historických událostí, Mariana Kubištová osvětluje snímky v kontextu zakázky nakladatele, Vojtěch Lahoda hodnotí estetiku souboru a hledá v něm výtvarně stěžejné motivy, Amy Hughes nabízí čtení Sudkových fotografií v kontextu filozofie či afektivní teorie a Katarína Mašterová je zasazuje do kontextu ostatních fotografií Prahy ze stejného období od jiných autorů. Struktura obrazové části katalogu kopíruje pět kapitol výstavy a uvádí také krátké výstavní texty. Katalog má podobně jako výstava i kritickou funkci. Fotografie významných historických událostí svým obsahem obvykle zastiňují obrazové kvality snímků – nové zhodnocení představeného souboru děl Josefa Sudka však i ve srovnání s jinými autory prokazuje, že u tohoto autora převažuje naopak hloubka a kvalita samotných fotografických obrazů. Ty charakterizuje citlivé osobní zaujetí fotografa-umělce složitým námětem.

The catalogue for the exhibition of the same name takes the form of a publication of five expert essays and a voluminous selection of accompanying graphic material. For the first time ever, the texts analyse the exhibited collection of Sudek’s images of Prague and its sites immediately following the end of the Second World War in 1945. It approaches the themes in an interdisciplinary manner and from various perspectives – Adam Havlík’s text contextualises the topic through a historical perspective, Mariana Kubištová addresses the images within the context of their publication process, Vojtěch Lahoda assesses the collection’s aesthetics and attempts to identify its artistically seminal motifs, Amy Hughes offers a reading of Sudek’s photographs within the context of philosophy and the theory of affect, and Katarína Mašterová puts them within context of other photographs of Prague by other authors from the same time period. The structure of the graphic part follows the five parts of the exhibition and also includes their short accompanying texts. Much like the exhibition, the catalogue serves a critical function. The photographs of notable historical events usually obfuscate the artistic qualities of the image in favour of the content – the new valuation of the presented collection however testifies to the fact that, in comparison to other authors, Josef Sudek always achieved a level of depth and quality in the images themselves. They are saturated with the photographer-artist’s sensitive and personal interest in approaching a very difficult theme.
