Geneze historického nadloží veřejných prostor ve městech je jednou z důležitých otázek při studiu rozvoje veřejného prostoru. Historické terény náměstí obsahují nenahraditelné informace, pokud jde o obnovu jejich minulého vzhledu. Nelze pochybovat o tom, že Staroměstské náměstí v Praze je jednou z klíčových lokalit výše uvedeného typu, které bylo archeologicky zkoumáno již více než 70 let. Většina archeologicky dokumentovaných výkopových prací byla prováděna jako součást stavebních činností, během nichž byla nezbytná operativní dokumentace a záchrana zmizelých archeologických nálezů. Malý zjišťovací výzkum, provedený v roce 2015, je výjimkou mezi těmito akcemi, zaměřil se na podrobnou dokumentaci historické stratigrafie lokality a ve spolupráci s přírodovědci poprvé v historii analyzoval získané ekofakty. Tato práce rekapituluje dosavadní archeologické aktivity na Staroměstském náměstí, shrnuje výsledky nových výzkumů a spolu s výsledky environmentálního výzkumu představuje obecnější závěry o genezi a složení stratigrafických a větších jednotek.

The genesis of the historical overburden of public spaces in cities is one of the important issues when studying the public space development. Historic terrains of squares contain irreplaceable information when it comes to restoration of their past look. There is no doubt that Old Town Square of Prague is one of the key localities of the above-stated type which has been examined by archaeologists for more than 70 years. Most archaeologically documented excavations were carried out as part of building activities during which operative documentation and rescue of the disappearing archaeological findings were necessary. A small evaluation excavation, which was conducted in 2015, is an exception among these activities, it focused on detailed documentation of the historic stratigraphy of the site and, in collaboration with environmental research experts, it analysed the gained ecofacts for the first time in history. This work recapitulates the actual archaeological activities in Old Town Square, summarises results of brand new activities, and along with the results of environmental research presents more general conclusions on the genesis and composition of the stratigraphic and larger units.
