The book focuses on the experience of Czechoslovakia and other occupied nations whose governments found refuge in London during the Second World War. Nineteen chapters written by renowned historians from nine countries cover various aspects of life in exile. The book as a whole delves into common characteristics and differences in the origin and structure of the individual exile representations in London; it attempts to explain the ways in which the governments-in-exile dealt with pressing social and economic problems and it also deals with measures by which the governments-in-exile were able to influence crucial allied diplomatic negotiations. Chapters focusing on military issues, then, strive to set the relative importance of not only armies, but also of all the strategic commodities and equipment which particular governments-in-exile were able to offer to the allied war effort. Other important topics covered in this book include various aspects of war-time propaganda as well as the preparation of the post-war solution to minority issues.
