Na území České republiky se sekavčík balkánský (Sabanejewia balcanica) vyskytuje pouze vzácně v tocích patřící do povodí Černého moře. Poprvé byl, a to v poměrně hojném počtu, nalezen v roce 1943 v Bečvě. Nicméně v období 1955-1960 vlivem znečištění jeho populace poklesla jak v toku Bečvy, tak i na dalších okolních lokalitách v povodí Moravy. Populace sekavčíka nalezená roku 2001v toku Vláry (povodí Váhu) při hranici se Slovenskem je pouze fragmetem hlavní populace na území Slovenska, mnohaletý monitoring ukazuje jeho postupné šíření do vyšších úseků Vláry. Na podzim 2016 bylo uloveno několik v toku Jihlavy. Sekavčík balkánský je klasickým příkladem druhu vhodného pro začlenění do záchranného programu na obou lokalitách současného výskytu, případně i v rámci možné repatriace v toku Bečvy.

In the waters of the Czech Republic Balkan golden loach (Sabanejewia balcanica) occurs only rarely in waters belonging to the Black Sea drainage area. For the first time this species was discovered in the basin of Bečva in 1943, where was relatively abundant. However, in the period 1955-1960 due to contamination, the population of S. balcanica disappeared. As well as other reports of sporadic occurrences of this species in the Morava river and at several other locations later have not been confirmed. The occurrence of S. balcanica in the flow Vlára (basin Váh) at a border with Slovakia (year 2001) is only marginal fragment of population whose substantial part is presented in the flow Vlára in Slovakia. During multi-annual monitoring has not been proven that the incidence of S. balcanica extend above the current segment Vlára. In the autumn of 2016 were caught a few specimens of S. balcanica at the bottom of river Jihlava. S. balcanica is a classic example of the kind for which should be implemented rescue program to both expand the occurrence of the species in the flow Vlára within the Czech Republic, where is defined for this kind locality of European importance within the system Natura 2000 and then restore the appearance of S. balcanica in the basin of Bečva, where was extended in the past.
