Hill-forts - especially the ones known from written records - have been arousing the interest of archaeologists since the 19th c. In the area of interest, those are Prague and Tetín. In this paper, I deal with the group of the oldest hill-forts and hill-sites (8th and 1st half of the 9th c.) on the lowlands along the Berounka river in the western part of Middle Bohemia. This region is situated about 310-340 km from the Avar Khaganat border, but the Avar type decorations are there quite typical finds. Contrary to the Eastern part of Middle Bohemia (region of Šembera River with 4-5 hill-forts), this region is not so good known from the point of view of archaeology. In the last three-four years, we have managed to assemble new knowledge. We newly discovered two hill-sites (Kosoř, Praha-Radotín and Mořinka) and we changed our viewing of other sites, especially of their importance in Early Middle Ages: e. g. Svatý Jan pod Skalou or Hostim. There is a remarkable concentration of strategical sites that are not distanced more than 7-9 km by air from each other (Praha-Šárka - Kosoř/Praha - Mořinka - Sv. Jan pod Skalou - Hostim). They even make immediate couples (Hostim - St. Jan pod Skalou or serial functional couples Hostim - Tetín). Unfortunately, they also were not studied by modern archaeology. My goal is to introduce some less known sites and open the ground for some questions that could be brought by our increasing awareness of them.
