Aclitus obscuripennis Foerst. was sampled by Malaise traps in northern Iran during 2010-2011. This is the first record of the genus in Iran and western Asian area. .A.obscuripennis is re-described and illustrated. Additional specimens from central Europe were also examined and compared.
