Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is severe disease of gastrointestinal tract (GIT) affecting mainly preterm neonates and neonates after surgery for congenital malformation of GIT. Since intestinal -fatty acid binding protein (I-FABP) reflects the rate of gut epithelium damage, we tested its suitable for early diagnosis of spontaneous and surgery-related NEC.
