In SHR-Retn strain we observed lower relative weight of interscapular BAT (-22%; P<0.05). Expression of the mouse transgenic resistin was associated with a significantly reduced oxidation of both palmitate (-34%, P<0.007) and glucose (-40%, P<0.001) in isolated BAT. SHR-Retn transgenic rats versus SHR controls exhibited a substantially reduced incorporation of palmitate (-23%, P<0.01) but not glucose into BAT lipids. In addition, in vivo microPET imaging revealed significantly reduced 18FFDG uptake in BAT induced by exposure to cold in SHR-Retn versus control SHR (-31%, P<0.05).
