Zakladatelé souborné kritické edice „J. A. Comenii Opera omnia – Dílo J. A. Komenského“ určili, že půjde o edici transkribovanou, dochované spisy budou rozděleny v prvním plánu tematicky, uvnitř tematických bloků pak chronologicky, celky uspořádané samotným autorem zůstávanou v edici zachovány, pro volbu předlohy edice bylo stanoveno pravidlo verze poslední ruky. Nicméně základním cílem kritické edice je podat uživateli spolehlivé znění vydávaného textu.

The founders of the comprehensive critical edition of „J. A. Comenii Opera omnia – the Works of J. A. Comenius“, have determined that the edition will be transcribed, the extant documents will be divided thematically in the first plan and chronologically inside the thematic blocks, blocks provably arranged by the author himself remain unchanged in the edition, the choice of the primary copy is governed by the rule of issuance by the last hand. Nevertheless, the main task of the critical edition is to present the correct wording of the issued text.
