The ODS (oxide dispersion strengthened) steels are promising materials for high temperature applications due to their strength and creep resistance at high temperatures. The new generation of 9Cr1W ferritic (ODS) steels with yttrium and aluminum oxides have been developed at IPM. The oxide particles are introduced into microstructure by direct adding and by internal oxidation. The Small Punch Test method is used for mechanical properties evaluation as it needs only small amount of material. The typical specimen is a disc with 8 mm diameter and O.5 mm thickness. The disc is penetrated by a punch with hemispherical tip and force-deflection -time dependencies are measured. The results of small punch tests have been compared to the results of the tensile tests performed on the same materials. The tests have been performed at the room temperature and 600°C. The values of yield stress and ultimate strength are correlated and compared with derived theoretical relations. The comparison shows good correlation between the results of both techniques which confirms that small punch test can be the useful method for obtaining mechanical properties from a limited amount of material.
