Text se zaměřuje na specifické postavení psa v období státního socialismu a na proměnu vnímání jeho funkce v průběhu 20. století, především však v období komunistického režimu. Poukazuje na to, že komunistický režim si dokázal vypracovat vrcholně modernistickou koncepci využití zvířat v rámci obranné infrastruktury státu. Jako prostředek této analýzy jsme si zvolili Svaz pro spolupráci s armádou, který měl chov pracovních plemen ve své gesci po celou druhou polovinu 20. století, s krátkou výjimkou přelomu 60.-70. let. Fakt, že kynologie a chov psů spadaly především do jeho gesce poukazuje na to, jak pevná role byla zvířatům v koncepci moderního státu a jeho režimu určena.

The paper is focused on the specific position of the dog in the era of the state socialism and on the change in perceiving its function, as it was defined, in different periods of the 20th century, by the communist regime. Its aim is to show the concept of high modernism that the state was able to work out in order to easily integrate animals into its own defensive infrastructure. As means for such analysis, the history of the Union for Collaboration with the Army (Svaz pro spolupráci s armádou – Svazarm) will be used which shielded the main part of the Czechoslovak cynology – breeding and training of working dog breeds – for the whole latter half of the 20th century (with only a short interruption at the turn of 1960s and 1970s). The Svazarm held the cynology of working dog breeds under its control for the whole time of its existence proves what a solid and crucial position the dog had in the modern conception of the state socialism.
