This volume gathers contributions devoted to topics at the core of Frederic Barbier’s own research. They all draw on detailed and erudite analysis of early-modern books in the Habsburg monarchy: books of common use, almanacs, liturgical local prints, textbooks, book catalogues and archival sources. They address broad issues, though: cultural and linguistic transfers, the construction of collective political identities, the relation between centres and peripheries, the main European intellectual movements: Reformation, Catholic reformation, Enlightenment. The group of authors here represented also reflects the research network that Barbier and his colleagues have been building in Central Europe for the last decades.
