Prediction of a rockburst occurrence is a problem whose solution is very complicated. It is closely related to the distribution of stress in the rock mass. Surely it would be necessary to know the position and time, where and when the rockburst comes. But it is, in the anisotropic and inhomogeneous rock mass impossible. That is why, for the sound prediction of stress conditions and, thus, predisposition of the rock mass to rockburst occurrence, sufficient experience and expertise is necessary above all else. However, based on this experience and expertise, it is only possible to make predictions in conditions similar to those in which the practical experience was acquired.Rockburst prediction methods represent an essential element of the rockburst prevention system. To a large extent, the success of the applied active and passive prevention measures depends on the accuracy of the prediction. For the prediction of the possible occurrence of rockbursts in the OKR, a relatively simple classification system based on assessing stress states was developed. For practical reasons, prediction is divided into three temporal and spatial levels. From this point of view, it is divided into the regional, local and continuous prediction
The contribution deals with development of the opinions on the possibility rockburst prediction, familiarizes with the prediction system applied in the Czech part of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin and discuses of feasible possibility of the application rockburst prediction in the mine.
