Monografie věnovaná Františku Gellnerovi představuje jeho výtvarné i literární dílo (včetně jeho publicistiky a karikaturní tvorby) v neobvyklých či neznámých perspektivách a společenských a kulturních souvislostech. Práce vychází z obsáhlého pramenného průzkumu, interpretačně se obrací jak k textům všeobecně známým, tak k těm spíše zapomenutým. Text se zabývá mj. genezí Gellnerových textů, humoristickými polohami jeho tvorby, jeho účastí na běžném chodu periodik (zejména Nového kultu a Lidových novin) a jeho souzněním s ideovým směřování listů a jejich politickým zázemím, ale také Gellnerovou nacionální identitou, jeho postoji k vlastnímu židovství, antisemitskými názvuky některých jeho prací a jejich souvislostmi.

The book on František Gellner presents his both visual and textual pieces of work (including his journalistic texts and his cartoons) in unusual or unknown perspectives and in uncommon social and cultural contexts. The study is based on a thoroughgoing heuristic research, it interprets both well-known texts as well as those forgotten ones. Attention is devoted among others to the genetic criticism of Gellner’s texts, to the problem of humour and satire in his works, or his participation in the routined operation of newspapers and magazines, his ideological agreement with these platforms and their political background. The study deals also with the problem of Gellner’s national identity, his approach to his Jewish origin, and it tries to contextutalize the antisemitic hints that can be found in his works.
