Kniha zahrnuje devětatřicet textů z období 1910–1938, kdy byly identifikovány důležité masarykovské otázky a výzvy. Podtitul upozorňuje na komplexnost Masarykova estetického myšlení, na jeho mezioborovou souvztažnost. Chronologicky řazený výběr z obsáhlého materiálu zahrnuje texty různých žánrů a rozmanité povahy, usiluje o reprezentativnost zejména z hlediska tematického a zároveň volbou významných autorů (F. X. Šalda, J. Vodák, O. Fischer, A. Novák, E. Rádl, J. L. Fischer, B. Markalous, J. Patočka ad.). Úvodní slovo editorů charakterizuje zásadní tematické okruhy (reflexe Masarykovy estetiky a jejích proměn, jeho osobité kritické a polemické praxe ve vztahu k české a světové literatuře a zejména k některým otázkám literárně-filozofickým a historickým a autorským osobnostem).

Čtení o T. G. Masarykovi [Readings on T. G. Masaryk] comprises thirty-nine texts written between 1910 and 1938, a time when important Masarykian issues and challenges were being recognised. The book’s subtitle, Literature – Humanity – the World, draws attention to the complexity of Masaryk’s aesthetic thinking, especially its interdisciplinary correlations. Arranged chronologically, this selection of work from an extensive body of material includes texts of various genre and form, endeavouring to be representative not only in terms of the themes covered, but also in its choice of important authors, ones who represent the most significant views and attitudes (F. X. Šalda, J. Vodák, O. Fischer, A. Novák, E. Rádl, J. L. Fischer, B. Markalous, J. Patočka…). The main thematic areas are characterised in the editors’ introduction (reflections on Masaryk’s aesthetics and their transformation. His distinctive, critical and polemical practice in relation to Czech and world literature and in particular with regards to certain literary and philosophical questions and historical and authorial figures.
