Colostrum-deprived germ-free piglets (GF) were colonized with commensal Lactobacillus amylovorus (LA) or probiotic E. coli Nissle 1917 (EcN) four hours after hysterectomy. Another group of piglets was infected at one week of age with Salmonella Typhimurium (ST) for 24 hours. Bacterial colonization of the intestine of one-week-old gnotobiotic piglets and possible translocation (CFU counting), transcriptions (RT-qPCR) of claudin-1 and occludin, and their protein expression (IF) were evaluated. Surprisingly the transcriptions of claudin-1 and occludin in Salmonella-infected piglets showed quite opposite trend compare to GF piglets
