The Chinese sleeper, Perccottus glenii Dybowski, 1877 (Actinopterygii: Odontobutidae), originally an Asian fish, has been one of the most successful invasive species in Europe in recent decades. In November 2015, we sampled Chinese sleeper from two distant localities in the River Naab drainage (Germany; Danube basin) and examined them for parasites, thereby providing missing data on this westernmost of European populations. Twelve taxa were found, including ciliates (unidentified Trichodina), a monogenean, three cestode species, two digenean taxa, two acanthocephalan species, two nematode species and one mollusc glochidia. The parasite community displayed low homogeneity at both localities sampled, with allogenic parasites (metacercariae and mesocercoids) mostly shared. No invasive parasites associated with Chinese sleeper were observed in the study area. This is in contrast with populations from the middle Danube drainage (e.g. from Hungary, Slovakia and Ukraine) the host specialist parasites. Absence of co-introduced parasites, together with the unlikelihood of active upstream migration due to this limnophilic species' poor upstream swimming ability, supports the hypothesis of its origin from the aquaria trade or introduction with commercial fish.
