At the annual IAPWS meeting 2016 held in Dresden (Germany) in September, activities of the Task Group on Surface Tension of Ordinary Water (TG) established at the TPWS working group were reported. Main goal of TG is to revise and improve accuracy of the currently valid IAPWS standard for the surface tension of water from 1994 (http://www.iapws.org/). New experimental data for the surface tension of supercooled water measured with horizontal capillary tube were presented. The literature data for the surface tension at the reference temperatures of +20 °C and + 25°C were published by J. Kalová and R. Mareš [Int. J. Thermophys. 36 (2015) 1396]. Most attention was dedicated to the new correlation by Pátek et al. [J. Chem. Eng. Data 61 (2016) 928] valid from the critical point down to the supercooled region around -25 °C. The new correlation need to be thoroughly analyzed as it appears as a potential candidate for replacement of the current IAPWS standard.
