The porosity of the rocks is one of the most important properties of rocks. This parameter enters into many hydrogeological, geotechnical and also geothermal calculations. The concept of spatial distribution and topography of this phenomenon are usually studied on a number of cuts using a microscope. Build-dimensional image of the pore distribution in the sample is not a trivial matter. The paper deals with the possibilities of using X-ray computed tomography on granite rock samples for analysis of the nature and 3D - distribution of pore space or other inhomogeneities. Common applications of X-ray computed tomography on compact granite rocks can only display major discontinuities and pores of larger volume. In summary, visibility and analysis of a small pore volume and particularly the fracture shapes are problematic. Significant improvement in visibility can be achieved by increasing the optical contrast of the observed structures. This was accomplished by testing the modified rock samples, e.g. after application of mercury porosimetry. Comparison of the results of X-ray computed tomography before and after treatments with increasing contrast of the pore space shows a significant improvement in visibility. This perspective allows to use the results for further research (e.g. for the subsequent creation of meshes based on the real structure of the sample for mathematical modeling of processes envisaged in the rock).
