The motivation of the presented work is to increase understanding of hydro-mechanical pro-cesses in bentonite based sealing structures and the surrounding host rock. With this aim a series of SEALEX experiments were realized by IRSN in Tournemire underground rock la-boratory in France. The experiments were consequently simulated within the DECOVALEX 2015 project; see e.g. (Millard et al. [1] and [2]). In this paper, we briefly describe a hydro-mechanical model developed at the Institute of Geonics CAS within the DECOVALEX 2015 project and application of this model for simu-lation of the SEALEX PT-A1 experiment. We extend the work realised within DECOVALEX 2015 (described e.g. in Millard et al. [1] and [2]) by a more detailed modelling, which considers the composition of the sealing plug from prefabricated bentonite/sand made blocks and investigates the effects of gaps between the blocks. Whereas, the modelling described in [1] and [2] used 3D simulations to understand the HM processes in horizontal installation with originally asymmetric technical gap between the plug and surrounding rock, for the purpose of investigation of the role of gaps, a simplified 2D axisymmetric model is used.
