Obnovitelné zdroje energie hrají v energetice vyspělých zemí stále důležitější roli. Jejich intermitentní charakter však zvyšuje nesoulad mezi produkcí a spotřebou energie, díky čemuž roste potřeba skladování energie. Výzvy, které stojí před politiky, energetickými společnostmi a vědci, byly shrnuty během workshopu Technology Perspectives for Energy Storage konaném v listopadu 2015 v Akademii věd ČR pod hlavičkou programu Strategie AV21 Akademie věd ČR.

Renewable energy sources play an ever increasing role in the power industries of developed countries. Their intermittent character, however, raises the imbalance between energy production and consumption, which results in an increased need for energy storage. The challenges for politicians, power industry and researchers were discussed during the workshop on Technology Perspectives for Energy Storage held in November 2015 in the Czech Academy of Sciences under the "Strategy AV21" initiative of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
