Studie pojednává o transformaci hradu Rožmberk v romantické hradní muzeum v polovině 19. století, jež se stala vrcholným počinem na poli uměleckého mecenátu jeho tehdejšího majitele hraběte Jiřího Jana Buquoye. Tato proměna hradu v muzeum – slovy majitele v "pomník předků" (nikoli pouze buquoyského rodu) –, kde se měla veřejnost potěšit pohledem na umělecké předměty a poučit o historii a hodnotách, které zanechali předkové, proběhla hlavně v letech 1843-1855 a spočívala ve stavebních úpravách i ve zcela novém zařízení interiéru. Na rozdíl od většiny hradních objektů podobně přestavovaných v intencích romantického historismu, v tomto případě se ale prosadily i poznatky z oblasti soudobé památkové péče.

The study describes the romantic transformation of the Rožmberk Castle, South Bohemia, into a "castle museum", which took place in the mid-19th century. The museum was an outcome and high point of Georg Johann Buquoy’s lifelong patronage of art. The transformation of Rožmberk Castle into a museum – in the words of its owner, into a "monument to ancestors" (and not only those from the Buquoy dynasty) – where the public was supposed to enjoy looking at the artefacts and learn about the history and values bequeathed by our ancestors, was carried out between 1843 and 1855 and consisted of structural modifications as well as a complete refitting of the interior. However, unlike the majority of castles similarly converted in the Romantic Historicist style, the work here incorporated also knowledge from contemporary heritage preservation.
