The chapter provides basic information about the history and development of tourism in the Czech Republic from the socialism time till today. Main types of tourism in the country are presented and basic statistical data concerning total bed capacity, overnight stays, the share of foreign tourists, the level of employment in the tourism sector and contribution of tourism to GDP are presented. As for the priorities of tourism policy, the most important research issues are discussed.
