Respiration of the ecosystem returns a big portion of the CO2 assimilated by photosynthesis and the balance between these two carbon fluxes determines whether ecosystems represent sinks or sources for CO2. In this study we investigated the relationship between temperature and CO2 efflux from different ecosystem components of a spruce forest and a wetland. In addition, we also focused on factors that disturbed this relationship. The relationship between temperature and soil CO2 efflux was influenced by water stress through slower diffusion of substrates to the microbes and in lower activity of enzymes or, in contrast, by high soil water content through the lack of oxygen. The relationship between temperature and stem CO2 efflux was affected by stem growth and sap flow rate. And finally, the relationship between temperature and needle CO2 efflux can be influenced by water stress and type of the previous photoperiod (sunny/cloudy).
