    During the laser-tissue interaction several types of interactions take place depending on the energy density and wavelength of the incoming radiation. From a biomedical point of view the most interesting ones are the photoablative interactions, which effectively remove tissue via decomposition without excessive heat damage to the remaining tissue. The decomposition occurs through direct breaking of molecular bonds followed by swift dissipation of decomposed particles into surrounding space. Photoablation occurs at energy densities of 107 – 109 W.cm-2 and pulse durations of 10 – 100 ns. For specific medical applications it’s necessary to know the ablation depth, i.e. the thickness of the layer removed with a single laser pulse. A new method to determine the ablation crater’s depth was developed using CT imaging; the results produced by this method were compared to results gained by other means and values available in literature.
