The working paper is based on the contribution on workshop on comparing national Academies of Sciences which took place 7-8 April 2015 in Budapest at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The paper introduces the history of the Czech Academy of Sciences, its status, structure and self-governance, funding, role in the Czech academic community, the membership and the status of Academy researchers and their working conditions and the main achievements and problems of the CAS.
