Tenkostěnné konstrukce představují účinný nástroj pro zvýšení konkurenceschopnosti ocelových konstrukcí. Ježto jde o soustavy tenkých (deskových) prvků, jejich mezní stav je silně ovlivněn stabilitními jevy. Situace je však zachráněna tím, že do hry vstupuje tzv. blahodárné pokritické působení, které brzdí další růst deformací a zvětšuje únosnost systému. Článek popisuje tento jev a „mapuje“ hlavní faktory, které velikost pokritické rezervy ovlivňují.

Thin-walled steel structures represent a very effective tool for increasing the competitiveness of steel construction. With them being composed of slender plate elements, their limit state is considerably affected by stability phenomena. However, the situation is saved by beneficial post-critical behaviour coming into play when plate deflections are of the order of plate thickness, which thereafter reduces any further deformation growth and enlarges the load-bearing capacity of the system. The paper describes this phenomenon and ”maps” the main factors that influence the magnitude of the post-buckled reserve of strength. Special attention is paid to what happens when the structure is subjected to many times repeated loading. In this case the plate elements repeatedly buckle, and a part of the post-critical behaviour is thereby ”eroded”.
